Desperation Sighting
On Sunday evening I got on a crowded train at a station somewhere in the North of England. Sitting near to me were two young men, one of whom told his made that he was 'bursting for a wee' and didn't know whether or not there was a toilet on the train. His mate suggested that he just piss himself! I knew perfectly well that there were toilet facilities but, interested to see how things would play out, kept quiet. Alas the desperate young man got up, went to investigate and found a toilet, returning a few minutes later with dry trousers. Obviously he'd made it in time if only just. Maybe I should have said it was against the rules to use a train toilet whilst the train was in the station but I'll know to do that another time!

It's interesting that the young man apparently hadn't told his travel mate that he needed to pee urgently until seated on the train. Perhaps he was hoping to keep it a secret until they reached their destination, and the unsympathetic response tells me why! I'm guessing that he has a rather small bladder, and that it's frequently a source of irritation to his mate, who can hold it practically forever.

Yes, the response that his friend should just piss himself is fascinating to speculate about. Maybe a previous history of the desperate guy's bladder annoying the other one was indeed a factor in how this all came about.
It reminds me a bit of witnessing an exchange between two young men on Liverpool Lime Street station many years ago. The pair were about to board a local train which did *not* have toilets on board! One of them said to the other: "I'm just going to find a toilet, okay?" The other one's exasperated response was: "We haven't got time!" The first one was silent after this. I'm not certain, but I think the two of them then boarded the train without any toilet visit first! Sadly, I was not due to travel on that train myself.
Thanks for your account, Adrian.

Thanks for the feedback, wombat48 and Fred. I don't know whether the guy in question had a small bladder or not. He was a healthy looking, university age, male and I doubt very much whether he had any significant health issues. It's only a hunch, but my guess is that his desperation was either down to taking too much fluid aboard ship or, more probably, that he'd not been to the toilet for several hours and didn't think about going before boarding the train. Probably he'd experienced some discomfort earlier which hadn't been too bad and maybe assumed he'd be able to keep his penis in his pants until they got to their final destination, only to discover that his discomfort would turn to desperation.

I like this explanation! And maybe this is typical behavior for him and it has become an annoyance to his mate, who certainly was unsympathetic. Implied in his remark was "It's your own fault that you need to pee."
Haven't we all known someone who was annoyingly improvident?

Re: Desperation Sighting
I was on Brighton Station once and the trains heading north can be very crowded. At the last minute a nice group of guys and girls got on just as the train was about to pull out. I guess they had had a few beers and I heard one of them tell his mates that he really needed to go before the train left to which his friend said ‘too late’. There are toilets on the train but getting there was impossible and standing outside a train toilet when you’re desperate can be a bad experience as one person can go in for ages and there is almost certainly a queue. The guy in trouble then told his friend he would have to get off at a station and catch them up afterwards. But it didn’t happen. After a while he sat down on the floor near the door and drew his knees up to his stomach with his arms round them looking miserable. I kept looking to see if he was ok and whether there was a trickle coming from his direction but when I got off after about 40 minutes half way up the line he was sat motionless looking as if he was about to cry. I don’t know how much further they had to go but if it was more than about ten minutes I think he Must have ended up with very wet jeans.

Holding a beer-filled bladder for 40 additional minutes is a remarkable athletic feat! I recall that when I was drinking beer and needed to pee, waiting 40 minutes was out of the question.
