PHP Security Alert

Dear Folks

I had heard about this earlier in the day and figured that it wouldn't affect us as much as we are on a managed service platform. As in, I don't host this myself at home. It is on a commercial platform who look after their own security.

It was only because I was perusing a council website in Scotland when it was taken offline I thought it worth checking, and we're still here.

Here is a snippet from their service support logs

Patches from upstream vendors have been released and are currently being deployed across the fleet in rolling waves. Our technical team is monitoring system stability throughout the rollout.

We will be performing a PHP-related service update that requires a brief maintenance period to complete the necessary security checks.

You may experience temporary interruptions during these times, after the maintenance period has ended, your service will resume as normal.

If you have further questions on the maintanance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
I have messaged the team and whilst they reccomend not changing anything, they also said they intend for everything to stay up and coherent. We have an SLA agreement of 99.99% but these security incidents are well within their remit and they know what they're doing.

If the site goes dark it will only be temporary as they aim to get everything back as soon as possible. This is a large hosting provider covering UK and Europe.

Hopefully these PHP problems will pass us by. Take care everyone.

Thanks
