Rugby Player Danny Care

Post by Lee »

He’s just announced his retirement from playing and I picked up his recent autobiography. There’s a well known story about him getting arrested twice in a matter of a couple of months for urinating in public and he talks quite openly about what happened. On the first occasion him and a group of mates came out of a club and called a people-carrier taxi but there were seven of them and it only held six - so he got left behind. He was desperate for the toilet and went behind some bushes but a couple of police officers spotted him and he was arrested.

Interestingly, he says that he wasn’t drunk and/or disorderly but he says he has a small bladder and if he doesn’t go when he’s desperate he can’t wait that long and “I’ll probably wet myself”. He was 22-years-old at the time.

A few months later, he was caught weeing in public again after being out for a drink, so he clearly HAS to go when he’s bursting.

Also interestingly, on one of the occasions, he was telling the police officers “I can’t stop!” but they still handcuffed him behind his back before he could stop weeing or manage to do up his jeans. That conjures up an intriguing image!! 😂

The first incident makes me wonder if he had some hand in being the one left behind when the others got into the 6-seater. He probably didn't want to end up pissing himself in the taxi!

Very interesting guy. I wonder if he had problems on the rugby field too sometimes after hydrating before a match.

He might be good company to go out drinking with. ;-)

Quite often it's not actually a small sized bladder but more likely an overly sensitive one. It starts contractions when it's only moderately full, and the fellow's sphincters aren't strong enough to hold back. If the involuntary sphincter fails early, then he must consciously use his voluntary one to keep holding, and it's likely to tire from overuse.

If past experience has had him lose control prematurely, there's a psychological factor that causes him to expect to lose it now. I've said before that we can usually hold our pee longer than we think we can. By the time we're 18 or so we have stronger physical control than when we were younger, and if we haven't tested our new limits we may anticipate failure. Danny Care could be taught better bladder control - and I'd volunteer to be his teacher!

I reckon he’s definitely had an accident sometime. Otherwise, why would he talk like that?

Yes, it does sound like he's speaking from bitter experience when he says “I’ll probably wet myself” if he doesn't go when he's desperate. I agree with Fred that he'd be very interesting company on a night out!

Fred's comments about the psychological side are very interesting too.

I’ve not found any other references so far!

Better to listen on Audible where he narrates the book himself!
