Euros football sighting

I was at a festival recently when the Euros football final was being shown on a big screen. I’m not a huge football fan, but was with my friends who wanted to watch it, so I was looking around the crowd as much as at the screen. We were next to a group of lads, really into the match, drinking pints throughout etc etc.

The match came to an end and was about to go to penalties. One of them, I’d say early twenties, wearing baggy grey joggers, a baggy black Hoodrich t shirt, white trainers and a lightweight retro nylon jacket, which he’d taken off and tucked into the waistband of the joggers.

He’d turned away from the screen looking around and at his phone, jiggling around, moving from foot to foot. He was chatting to his friend, who then sort of punched him jokingly in the stomach. He bent over, arms folded pressing against his crotch, thighs together, and when he stood up he just looked really agitated and his eyes looked watery. His friend pointed over in the direction of the toilets, and looked at his watch. The lad looked at his phone again and headed off in that direction.

He got back in time for the penalties and was just acting really different. One of the group had been to the bar, and his mate handed him a pint and he put his arm round his shoulder to thank him I guess – as he turned around to look towards the back of the crowd I saw there were some dark splash marks on one of his thighs – I’d like to think it’s where he was in a rush having a piss, but probably more likely just dripping beer from the full paper cup.

I couldn’t hear what they’d been saying, but would imagine he didn’t want to miss the penalties and was wondering whether he’d have time to make it to the toilets or to hold on. He must have told his mate who thought it was funny to mockingly punch him near the bladder.

I imagine the situation of lads not wanting to miss seeing part of a match or other sporting event might be quite common . . . anyway was nice to see it in person!

Your appraisal of the situation is doubtless correct. When young men are watching a sporting event and drinking beer, they don't want to miss any of the action and are inclined to hold their bladders until there is a break. A video on this topic that I'm sure posted here is one of my favorites:

Since they were all drinking beer, I wonder if they all peed before they left. Were there any who didn't bother, thinking they'd hold it until they got home? We know how that sometimes ends.
