Retail Sightings

Post by WindowsXP »

Hello! I'm 30 years old and I've been working in retail for most of my 20's in charity shops. Anybody whose ever worked in retail in general will know you can get a mixed bag of customers and in charity shops, it's like a circus of crazy people! But the reason I'm posting this topic is to detail some of the toilet-related sightings and experiences I've witnessed. Feel free to chat about your own experiences here too. I'm sure it'll make a good thread for viewers who share our interests to have it all in one place I guess!

I'll kick things off with my own story from today shortly.

Starting things off with my most recent sighting from today (7/10/24) and one of the team from outside had approached me this afternoon querying what to do about some shoes that they'd found outside of our shop.

Occasionally, people leave donations outside rather than bring them in to the shop and hand them to a member of the team, but these were left under a bench we have outside, near the shop. They'd clearly been left, be it accidentally or on purpose.

I decided to respond by checking on them myself so that I could assess the state of them then make a judgement from there. The possibility in my mind was that if they still had the new packaging with them then they most likely had been purchased from the neighbouring sports shop and left behind accidentally after a rest stop on the bench.

So I approach them, and there they are, a bit worse-for-wear and soggy. I pick them up and without even thinking I exclaim "has somebody pissed themselves in them maybe?" to my colleague. They laughed it off and said "probably".

But to my surprise - that seemed to be exactly what had happened! I pulled them up to my nose and gave a little sniff, and to my astonishment they reeked of ammonia / urine.

I had loads to do work-wise still and by this point it was about 3pm so 2 hours left to do it all, but I couldn't help myself. As I'm the manager I can essentially lock myself in to the office without question - so I did. I logged in and headed straight for the outdoor CCTV camera footage for the day. I scrolled through the day from the beginning.

To my astonishment, I found that a retail worker in a shop next door to ours had squeamishly left them behind. His work trousers were black so I couldn't see the wetness on his trousers but I did see him try to readjust himself several times and pull the trousers off his legs where it was sticking to them - presumably because they were wet. His trainers were black Nike Air Force 1's which aren't cheap, but aren't expensive. Easily replaceable and common uniform-appropriate work shoes for lads, particularly in Liverpool where most of us wear sports branded clothing whereover possible.

He was also acting very suspicious in a techy, on-edge way, which also leant to the assumption that he must've wet himself. He stormed out of work with his backpack and past our shop and straight in to our other neighbour Sports Direct at about 1pm (which I can assume was his dinner break), then back out again 15 mins later towards the bench outside our shop. He kicked off his shoes in an agitated, frustrated manner and also his socks. He then ripped off (literally, this lad was PISSED) a pair of Nike socks to wear before then fishing back in to his sports direct bag and pulled out his box of new black trainers. They were no branded I think so he must have just been quickly trying to fix his problem without spending too much.

He'd placed the old trainers under the bench once he took them off earlier, but once he'd put the new ones on he got his bags together and stormed off without them - in to our shop! He could be seen asking one of us for help / directions and was shown by a colleague to the mens trouser rail. Sadly I don't think we had his size or uniform style trousers though because he quickly left as soon as he was done rapidly flicking through a small section of them (presumably just his sizes).

He then bolts out and in to another charity shop facing us and is seen walking back from that direction a short while later towards his shop, holding on of their carrier bags so presumably he'd gotten his hands on a replacement pair.

So yeah I found that incredibly hot! If anybody's interested in the rest of his outfit (I know some people like knowing the clothing), he was wearing a company blue & orange polo buttoned up and tucked in and he only looked to be somewhere in his 20s. I honestly didn't believe my luck when I saw him on the CCTV because he looked like a fully grown lad with a sharp look about him and like he hits the gym quite a bit. It was hard to imagine that he could've wet himself just on his looks and I know that doesn't make much logical sense but idk, I find it easier imagining some guys wetting themselves more than others, and he just seemed too focussed and I guess 'in control' of himself to allow something like that to happen. That might just be me though, not sure if any of you have that? I guess you'd call it unconscious bias.

I'll leave you now to imagine the scenarios that lead to him wetting himself. I know I already have! Stuck on the till for too long maybe? Too work focused and left it until it was too late perhaps? Couldn't get out of a conversation with a customer possibly? And where did it happen? Publicly on the shop floor or semi-privately in the back???

Wow, that’s a whole night’s work fantasising how it might have happened! I don’t know which scenario I fancy most? But publicly in the shop has to be the starting point…

What a great an intriguing sighting.

Amazing! Thanks for the write-up.

Like Lee I'll be fantasising about what happened too!

You could perhaps go next door with the shoes tomorrow, return them to him, explain that you know what happened (without mentioning that you scoured the CCTV footage of course!), express a bit of sympathy, and maybe he'll tell you how it happened,

I was thinking similar. It’s too good an opportunity to miss.

I don’t expect you to name the shop he worked in, of course. But is it the type of establishment where he could have been behind a counter dealing with a queue of customers?

Although the shop next door would be required to have a toilet available for employees, it's been my experience that in an almost entirely female workplace, the women resent having a man use their facilities. This fellow might have been in the habit of holding his pee for this reason, and on this day he couldn't manage it.
